Dāna (pronounced “daa-nuh”) means "generosity" in Pāli, the language that the Buddha spoke and taught in. In the insight tradition, Dāna is a practice that is cultivated, just like meditation and mindfulness are practices that are cultivated.

In the Buddhist tradition, dāna is the practice of letting go. We offer what we have in a way that frees attachment and highlights interdependence.

West Philly Insight continues the thousand year old Buddhist sharing economy by not charging for meditation classes. We cover our expenses through dāna. Teachers and those leading meditations are not compensated. If you would like to offer dāna to a teacher, you may do so after class by dropping cash in the donation box, or by
Venmo.
